Summation of Learning

1.
Top 2 ideas/concepts learned:

I learned how to create and maintain a positive, productive learning environment and support and foster a safe classroom community. Managing change is a daily part of the human experience that leads to better planning and more realistic expectations. Besides designing rules to hold students accountable for their behavior, I also learned how to create a more positive learning environment to improve student learning and academic success.

One thing I learned in managing change that surprised me the most was:

The critical role of classroom management surprised me the most, as it is one of the most vital roles teachers play because it determines teaching success. Senge et al. (2012) suggest that effective teachers are effective with students of all achievement levels, regardless of the levels of heterogeneity in the classes. Students in an effectively managed classroom know what is expected of them. In a well-managed classroom, the central role of the teacher is planning, organizing procedures and resources, arranging the environment to maximize efficiency, monitoring students’ progress, anticipating potential problems,

The AHA moment:

The AHA moment is the feedback with the opportunity to redo our work, learn from our mistakes, and have the possibility of a positive learning experience. Senge (2012) equates feedback with balancing progress, as processes are always bound to a target, a point, or a goal. From a perspective, feedback in education can help improve learning by explaining what is accurate or inaccurate about their work; it helps guide students on what steps to take to enhance their knowledge and motivate them to act on their assessments.

Implementation:

Changing change in an educational setting must be part of a clear and compelling future vision. I will identify the shift while assessing the impact, develop a plan, and explain the change. Monitor and evaluate while always being ready to adjust to the unique challenge as we move forward.

Concepts of being a change agent and recognizing progress:

As a change agent, I will be able to identify the need for the change and take the initial steps of the process, overseeing it from conception to closure. I will listen attentively, provide feedback to all parties involved in the change, and take appropriate action to mitigate resistance. I will position myself to anticipate the stakeholder concerns well in advance and address their vision to support the change.

1.
Key concepts learned for the first time but will develop more in the future:

Managing resistance to change is one of the most important concepts I learned in this course. I knew that people are creatures of habit and often find it challenging to incorporate new changes into their routines. This remonstrance is because they tend to do things that make them feel good, secure, and comfortable. It is essential to anticipate resistance effectively and integrate resistance management actions and activities into change management plans.
